In 1990 while I was the minister of music at a church in Canton, Michigan, I started a trio ministry
with Ms. Anita Clark singing alto, Brother Julius Dechavez on baritone, and myself singing lead.
I named the ministry The Chapels inspired by the 1957 song “My Heart Is A Chapel” sang by the
Statesmen Quartet featuring my father Denver Crumpler. The ministry sang at a number of
local churches, but was predominately a special music group for the church. |

By 1991, brother Terry Crousen had replaced brother Julius on baritone as the group started
out to record it’s first album HIS ARMS OF LOVE. We recorded this album in Plymouth, Michigan
with a number of local musicians and this experience was a great blessing that I think
I will always remember. The project was the beginning efforts of a ministry that would
go on to touch many lives for Christ and is still doing just that today.
I wrote two original songs and Anita Clark wrote two original songs for this album.
And, little did I know that song writing by the members of the group would
be a trademark of the future Chapels ministry. |
