The Rangers Quartet after singing all over the southwestern states, moved
into the eastern part of the south and joined Station WBT in Charlotte, NC. |
|
For several years they worked from their home in Charlotte and soon became one of the
best known groups on radio & records in the country. When the All Night Singings began
to start all around the country, one of the most sought after groups was the Rangers.
People had heard them on records and on radio for many years, and when they had the chance to
see them in person they came from miles around to attend the concerts where they were featured. |

During the time that Denver was with the Rangers he worked with many of the people who are
now known as members of other groups in Gospel music. All the men who have ever worked with
Denver have been affected by the sincere friendship which he had for his fellow man.
The friendships he made with all these were strong enough to weather the years. |

During the time after the Rangers suffered a tragic automobile accident which took the life of
Erman Slater and put Arnold Hyles in the hospital for over a year, Jimmy Jones sang with the
Rangers and Denver and Jimmy became close friends. As Jimmy expresses it, Denver became
a real brother to him and the other members of the group. Doy Ott was another man who worked
with the Rangers for a while, and later when the Statesmen needed a tenor, Doy who had
already joined the group, was successful in getting Denver to join the Statesmen
who about this time had become one of the top groups. |
